World History

American beginnings

Even decades into my adult life, I always feel somewhat behind my international friends when it comes to matters of geography and international history, as well as modern cultural norms in large swaths of the developed world which never reached my backwoods American upbringing.

If you ever wondered about other places in the world where life, culture, food, and history are different, you can always get a taste by watching videos or movies, going to museums, traveling, attending festivals, reading books, and getting to know people who come from different backgrounds. (Or for more adult audiences, you could try “Drunk History” videos.)

Overly Sarcastic Productions

This YouTube channel is self-described as “sarcastic, yet informative, summaries of classic and not-so-classic literature and mythology, as well as major historical events!” Less country-specific, but still a good resource.
